First Colony
Winery in Charlottesville, Virginia has officially opened
its doors to the public for wine tastings and tours. Join the staff
for the official Grand Opening Celebration, complete with a ribbon
cutting by the Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce, on Saturday
and Sunday, April 13 and 14 from 11am to 5pm. In addition to the
daily tours and tastings being offered, the celebration will include
behind-the-scenes tours with French winemaker Jean-Michel Jussiaume,
hors doeuves and live music with local legend George Melvin.
There is no cost to attend.
The incredible 2001 harvest produced the first wines and many are
now available at the winery for tasting. They include the Vidal
Blanc, Chardonnay, Chardonnay Reserve, Viognier, Blush, Cabernet
Franc, Claret and Late Harvest Vidal Blanc. Some wonderful oak-aged
red wines will be released later this summer.
