DYKE, VA Stone Mountain Vineyards won a silver medal for
its 2000 Cabernet Franc Reserve and a bronze medal for its 2000
Chardonnay Reserve at the recent Indy International Wine Competition,
adding to the young Virginia winerys growing list of international
medals received this year.
Considered one of the largest and most respected wine competitions
in the country, the Indy International Wine Competition featured
more than 3,260 wines from 15 countries, which were judged by a
60-member panel of notable wine experts.
Were extremely pleased to win recognition for two of
our wines at the Indy International Wine Competition, said
Chris Breiner, general manager of Stone Mountain Vineyards. We
are especially proud of our silver medal winner, our 2000 Cabernet
Franc Reserve. Its made with 100 percent cabernet franc grapes.
Upon raising your glass, your nose will be greeted with a wonderful
bouquet. Its a very smooth, full-bodied wine with a slight
hint of pepper in the finish. Our wine brings out the true character
of the cabernet franc varietal. One sip will show why the varietal
is quickly becoming popular in the U.S.
The 2000 Chardonnay Reserve was barrel fermented in a combination
of French and American oak. The combination of the two oaks provides
a unique bouquet and body to truly highlight the characteristics
of the fruit.
The 2000 Cabernet Franc Reserve retails for $19.00; and the 2000
Chardonnay Reserve retails for $15.00 at the winery.
The medals represent another win this year not only for Stone Mountain
Vineyards, but for Virginia. These awards are yet another
confirmation that the Virginia wine industry can produce notable,
award-winning wines that are worthy of international praise and
respect, added Breiner.
