AARP Goes For the Garlic!

AMHERST, VA My Generation, the AARPs magazine
designed especially for baby boomers 45 and up, will visit the Virginia
Wine and Garlic Festival at Rebec Vineyards, October 12th and 13th,
2002. The Festival is one of only six East Coast locations chosen
by the My Generation Road Show.
The Road Show will offer several pavilions to Festival-goers, with
tips on travel, health, fitness and finance, plus free samples and
coupons galore. Theres even a putting contest for golfers
(and would-be golfers)!
And thats not the only contest. Rebecs annual (and
always hotly contested) Great Garlic Cook-Off is open to all chefs
who send in a recipe, using FRESH garlic, to Rebec Vineyards, 2229
N. Amherst Highway, Amherst, VA 24521. Rebecs judges will
test all recipes and notify the top five to appear as finalists
at the Cook-off on Saturday, October 12th. Feel free to think outside
the box (or clove!): Last years winner was a CAKE!
Garlic King and Queen contests may be entered at the Virginia Wine
and Garlic Festival, on the first day (Saturday, October 12th) of
the two-day Event. Contests for Junior Garlic Queen (ages 15 and
under) and Best Garlic Costume (all ages) may also be entered at
the Festival, which is a Rain or Shine Event.
The Twelfth Annual Virginia Wine and Garlic Festival features six
Virginia wineries; 35 vendors of delectable food and drink; and
more than 100 arts, crafts and service boothsnot to mention
Garlic Growers from all over the East Coast. Theres even a
monetary prize for the biggest garlic!
Five live music groups will perform, plus comedy and magic acts.
And there are lots of activities for children. Adult tickets are
$14 in advance and $20 at the gate. Advance tickets may be ordered
