RICHMOND, VA Its time to get your passport in order
and take a tour of Virginias Wine Country. The Passport
to Virginia Wineries can be found in the 2004 Virginia Wineries
and Festival Tour Guide, a free publication available from the Virginia
Wine Marketing Office, part of Virginia Department of Agriculture
and Consumer Services.
The Passport to Virginia Wineries is a program that
rewards frequent visitors to Virginias wineries with wine-related
prizes. Passports are stamped at participating wineries and redeemed
for fun prizes at either the 25 or 40 visit level. Past prizes include
mouse pads, insulated wine totes, T-shirts, and cork screws.
In addition to the Passport to Virginia Wineries, the
2004 Virginia Wineries Festival and Tour Guide includes a comprehensive
listing of the states wineries, directions, hours of operation,
maps and a listing of more than 350 Virginia wine-related events
taking place in the Commonwealth throughout the year.
Like Virginias grapevines, the number of Virginia wineries
continues to grow and produce award-winning wines. Virginia now
boasts 85 wineries, producing more than 795,000 gallons of wine
annually. Virginia wineries are regularly garnering national and
international attention and accolades from prestigious wine competitions,
including Best Wine in the U.S. at the 2003 Atlanta
International Wine Summit, the souths oldest and largest wine
competition, and Double Golds in the International Eastern Wine
Competition.
